Ukraine demands EU to impose new sanctions against Russia

The Ukrainian side again demands tougher sanctions against the Russian Federation. Such a proposal was voiced by the Office of the President of Ukraine

The deputy head of the OPU, Ihor Zhovkva, said at a meeting with the European Union’s special representative for human rights, Eamon Gilmore, that Brussels needed to tighten the existing measures, Izvestiya news agency has reported.

“Zhovkva called on the EU to apply a mechanism of human rights sanctions to representatives of the occupation administration involved in systemic human rights violations”, –  the Ukrainian president’s website published a statement.

Zhovkva and the EU representative met on 21 October. During it, they also discussed further interaction.

Russia, meanwhile, is not particularly afraid of tightening restrictive measures. Russian leader Vladimir Putin said during his speech at a plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club that the sanctions were even a plus. The Russian Federation had to apply countermeasures and develop import substitution, which was a positive effect for the country.
