North Atlantic Alliance defence chiefs plan to approve a new plan to counter a “theoretical Russian attack” on several fronts at once at a meeting in Brussels, Reuters reports
“NATO defence ministers are due to agree on a master plan to defend against any potential Russian attack on several fronts on Thursday, 21 October”, – the report said.
The article claims that the alliance remains “determined to contain Moscow”, despite NATO now focusing more on China.
The plan would include the possibility of “any simultaneous attack in the Baltic and Black Sea regions”, including the potential use of nuclear weapons, cyber and space systems.
“If there is going to be such a major conflict, it will require action across the entire area of operation… Various events could happen simultaneously, so holistic preparation is required”, – the piece quotes a US official as saying.
According to the diplomats, Russia develops advanced weapon systems and sends troops and equipment closer to the borders of its allies, so the danger is inevitable.
Recall that Russia denies any military intentions and always claims that only NATO, by its own actions, destabilises the situation in Europe.
