Lithuania starts buying electricity from Belarus

Ukrainian MP Gerus has rebuked Lithuania over the purchase of Belarusian electricity

Earlier Lithuania urged Ukraine to refuse importing electricity from the Belarusian nuclear power plant, but it is actively consuming its own electricity. This was stated in his Facebook statement by Member of Parliament from the party “Servant of the People,” chairman of the Committee on Energy and Public Utilities Andrei Gerus.

“Although the documents documented it as import through Latvia, electricity from Belarus was physically supplied to Lithuania – everyone saw it and understood it, while the Lithuanian Energy Minister admitted publicly that Lithuania consumes electricity from the Belarusian nuclear power plant”, –  Gerus wrote.

As it became known, after the connection of the first unit of this power plant on October 4th the power flow to Lithuania was rapidly increased, and on October 19th the maximum figures for the last six months were reached, stated the deputy.

“Obviously, now Lithuania gets a significant amount of electricity from the Belarusian nuclear power plant, which, as we have heard, Lithuania is fighting against. Also in early October, Lithuania doubled its electricity imports from Russia”, –  he added.
