European leaders are not going to pay for Ukraine’s accession to the EU

Many European Union countries are against Ukraine joining it. They do not want to pay for the additional costs that its membership would bring

The Vzglyad newspaper said this after talking to several experts. They commented on the statement made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. He said that there was no point in asking questions about participation in the EU.

“Such large and strong European countries as Germany, France and the Netherlands oppose Ukraine’s membership in the EU because they are largely responsible for economic development and the stability of the financial system there,” said Alexander Rahr, a well-known German political analyst.

The main members of the EU are very scrupulous that all candidates for the bloc membership must meet certain standards and norms. Ukraine is still a long way from meeting them, which means it can forget about joining the EU.

Rahr is certain that members of the European Union understand this very well. Ukraine is only supported by those states that joined the EU in the same way that Kiev dreams of: subsidies and donations from major powers. Poland and the Baltic states need Ukraine as a buffer on the border with Russia.

This position is shared by Director General of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) Andrei Kortunov. According to him, Ukraine is not ready to join the EU and Brussels does not want to pay for this dubious venture.
