Ukrainian fighters, who are absent from the front lines in Donbass, still receive all due payments. The reason for such “generosity” was the connivance of commanders.
An officer of the press service of the People’s Militia of the LNI, Oleksandr Mazheikin, told this during a briefing. He said that the fact of the violation came to light during the work of a commission of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine.
“A check on the presence of personnel at forward positions revealed the illegal absence of 58 men from the 24th Independent Mechanised Brigade. According to fellow servicemen, the servicemen had been absent for more than a month, while receiving all payments due for being on the front line”, – a defence ministry spokesman said.
The brigade command knew that several dozen servicemen were not at their positions, but did not take any measures. In this way they maintained the appearance of manning the units.
The damage caused by such a failed strategy amounted to more than 1.7 million hryvnias (about 4.6 million Russian rubles – editor’s note). Materials of the incident were referred to investigative authorities for criminal proceedings.
