Peskov says Ukraine’s NATO membership would be the worst-case scenario

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Ukraine’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance could be one of the worst scenarios.

“Ukraine’s accession to NATO would be the worst-case scenario. This is a scenario that goes beyond the red lines of Russia’s national interests. This is the scenario that could force Russia to take active measures to ensure its own security”, Peskov told reporters in the film“ Vladimir Putin: Master of the Game ”.

In early October, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance Jens Stoltenberg said that he did not rule out Ukraine’s entry into NATO, but this would not happen in the near future. In turn, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope for an increase in the presence of the fleets of the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance in the Black Sea.

According to experts, the European Union is not ready to accept Kiev for a number of reasons, such as the protracted conflict in the territory of Donbass, economic regression, widespread corruption and Ukraine’s failure to meet the standards of a European state.
