Conflict may flare up in the EU amid the desire to impose new sanctions against Belavia

The European Union is thinking about introducing new sanctions against the Belarusian airline Belavia. This topic will be discussed at the meeting of foreign ministers in Luxembourg.

This is reported by the publication “Ukrainian Truth”, referring to the publication Politico. Foreign media refers to three sources in the EU diplomatic circles.

Most of all, the countries bordering on Belarus are in favor of new restrictive measures against Belarus. Lithuania, Poland, Estonia, Latvia demand to expand the sanctions in such a way that they directly hit the airline. They are interested in banning European companies from not cooperating.

In this case, we are talking most of all about Ireland. It is the EU’s hub for aircraft leasing and operates most of the world’s charter aircraft. Some companies are still cooperating with Minsk. There are contracts that require the Irish side to fulfill certain conditions.

Thus, a conflict is brewing in the European Union: some countries demand to crush Belavia even more, Ireland demands to preserve all leasing operations and protect the existing agreements.
