The death toll in an explosion at a Shiite mosque in the Afghan city of Kandahar has risen to 63, a source at a local hospital told RIA Novosti.
Previously, 41 victims were known. Another 83 people were injured, the source added.
The explosion took place the day before. According to a RIA Novosti source, three suicide bombers committed the attack, another person opened fire near the building. According to media reports, the Islamic State * group claimed responsibility for the explosion.
A week ago, a terrorist attack in Kunduz province killed at least 120 people and injured 150. Prior to that, there were two more explosions in Afghanistan – at the Idgah mosque in Kabul and at a religious school in Jalalabad in the east of the country. In the first case, 12 people became victims, 32 were injured; in the second, seven were killed, another 15 were wounded. ISIS militants were involved in all the attacks.
