Ilya Kiva, an opposition deputy to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, commented on the latest events related to former Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili.
Togo was recently detained in his homeland, where he returned after several years on the run. A member of the “Opposition Platform – For Life” believes that the arrest of Saakashvili saved Ukraine money, which it could have spent on its maintenance, RIA Novosti reports.
Kiva called the fugitive Georgian president a “swindler on tour”. He expressed gratitude to the Georgian authorities and law enforcement agencies for ridding Ukraine of him.
“You have saved our country from useless spending and spending from the state budget, which is tens of thousands of dollars a month, for the maintenance of this crook and charlatan in our country. I know one thing for sure – justice has triumphed and the world has become cleaner!” – wrote the deputy on the social network Facebook.
Saakashvili was arrested on October 1. At home, he is involved in several criminal cases at once. At the same time, during his flight from his homeland, he settled in Ukraine, managed to obtain citizenship and become a participant in local politics. Thus, he holds the post of head of the executive committee of the national reform council. Against this background, there were even promises in Kiev to return Saakashvili to the country, but Georgia immediately announced that they would not consider the idea of extradition.
