Kiev decided to completely abandon electricity from Russia and Belarus

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba announced the confirmation of full political support for Ukraine’s integration with the European Union’s ENTSO-E power grid during the Ukraine-EU summit.

“This means that our power grid will be connected to the European one and will become an integral part of it,” he said.

“We will disconnect from the electric networks of Russia and Belarus. This will strengthen our energy independence, create additional market opportunities for Ukrainian producers and suppliers of electricity to make money on the European Union market”.

Kuleba stressed that the main technological conditions stipulated by the agreement on the unification of the energy system of Ukraine with the energy system of continental Europe ENTSO-E have already been fulfilled.

For several days in the winter and summer of 2022, Ukraine intends to test the operation of the power system in a mode isolated from the Russian Federation and Belarus. If the tests are successful, the Ukrainian power system will switch to trial parallel operation with ENSTO-E. The final synchronization of the systems is scheduled for 2023.
