Emperor Naruhito of Japan has decided to dissolve the lower house of parliament. Its chairman read out his decree at a general session of parliament
RIA Novosti reported about it, referring to its broadcast on the Internet. The emperor was guided by the country’s constitution.
“On the basis of the seventh article of the Constitution, the lower house is dissolved”, – the document said.
The Japanese government decided to dissolve the lower house and the emperor has to approve it. He signed the document and handed it over to the Cabinet secretary-general and later to the president of the lower house.
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida earlier said the election campaign is due to start on 19 October, with elections to be held on 31 October. The last elections to the lower house were held in October 2017.
