Italy intends to influence the recognition of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine against coronavirus in Europe. The country’s authorities said they would try to speed up the process
Rome will not recognise the drug at the national level without the agreement of the European Union, but is ready to help resolve the issue. Italian Ambassador to Russia Giorgio Starace said this in a conversation with RIA Novosti.
“At the moment, no. It would be difficult for us to follow the path that Hungary, for example, has taken. We are very closely integrated in the European Union, we are an important member and we respect the regulatory procedures within the European Union”, – he said.
According to him, Italy “will play its part in the technical consultations”. However, the final decision rests with the specialised institutions. The Rome representative stressed that the sooner the process is completed, the better.
