This statement was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin at the plenary session of the Russian Energy Week forum
“The gas price hike in Europe was caused by electricity shortages, and not vice versa, so we should not shift the blame from bad to worse. It is important to follow the principles of technological neutrality, i.e. to objectively consider the carbon footprint of different types of generation. Few people know this, but the carbon footprint of nuclear power is lower than that of solar power. I think that even specialists sitting in this hall have heard this, maybe for the first time”, – said the President of the Russian Federation.
Putin also said that by 2035 Russia will increase its LNG production to 140 million tonnes per year, which would account for 20% of the global market.
Earlier, the gas price stabilised after Putin’s words about “gas aid” and readiness to help stabilise the energy market in Europe.
