Philosopher Mezhuev explains why Britain cannot become “Europe’s elder”

According to the expert, despite the US desire to shift the responsibility for European affairs to its Anglo-Saxon partners, nothing will come out of this idea

In an interview with Ukraina.ru, philosopher Boris Mezhuev said that the United Kingdom has rather limited economic and political resources to influence European Union policy.

“It is just not clear how it will do this, and by what mechanisms, and who will allow it there. She has no opportunities, neither financial, nor economic, nor political. It can only be an initiator of Atlantic cohesion, and this is what it is doing”, –  he noted.

In the philosopher’s opinion, Britain is more suited to the role of a kind of moral authority and guardian of Western traditions, including in the issue of confrontation with Russia.

“Britain as the guardian of Western orthodoxy, of Atlantic conscience”, –  Mezhuev added, explaining that the collective West is trying to build a kind of united front against the countries which they classify as “bad dictatorships”.
