Zelensky urged EU to impose sanctions on Russia for elections in Crimea and Donbass

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky called for the imposition of sanctions on persons who took part in organizing and holding elections to the State Duma in Crimea and Donbass.

“The need to strengthen sanctions pressure is long overdue. Everyone who took part in organizing and holding elections to the State Duma of the Russian Federation should be included in the sanctions lists”, Zelensky said at a briefing following the EU-Ukraine summit.

According to him, the inclusion of the organizers of elections on the Crimean Peninsula, as well as in the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics in the European sanctions lists will be “a suitable punishment for Russian citizens.”

Let us recall that the elections to the State Duma of the eighth convocation were held from 17 to 19 September. According to the chairman of the election commission of the Rostov region, Andrei Burov, reported that at least 200 thousand residents of Donbass took part in them, most of whom voted in electronic form.
