Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow, together with other countries, intends to hold a conference on the provision of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, RIA Novosti reports.
“With regard to humanitarian aid, we, together with a number of other countries, want, in particular, during the Moscow format meetings to propose under the auspices of the UN to hold a conference to provide assistance, including humanitarian assistance to this country,” Lavrov told reporters during the briefing.
The radical Taliban movement* seized power in Afghanistan against the backdrop of the withdrawal of the American military contingent from the republic. On August 15, the Taliban captured Kabul and announced the end of the war. In early September, the composition of the interim government of Afghanistan was announced, headed by Mohammad Hasan Akhund, who served as foreign minister during the first rule of the Taliban*.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Information and Culture in the interim Afghan Cabinet of Ministers Zabihulla Mujahid, in an interview with a TASS journalist, expressed the hope that Russia would provide assistance in the reconstruction of Afghanistan.
