In the city of Santee, California, a Cessna 340A twin-engine passenger plane crashed into a residential area. At least two people and 12 homes were injured, according to CNN.
“The deaths of several people have now been confirmed, but so far we cannot officially name the exact figure. We know that at least two have been confirmed”, said Santi City Deputy Fire Chief Justin Matsushita.
According to the Daily Mail, the driver of the truck and the pilot of the plane were killed. The plane first crashed into a truck, and then into two nearby houses. In total, about 12 buildings were damaged. It is noted that the plane crashed while landing two to three blocks from the high school. Air traffic controllers could be heard begging the plane to gain altitude a few moments before the crash.
The cause of the plane crash is currently unknown and will be established by law enforcement officers. Rescuers are working at the scene. The fire, which engulfed several buildings and vehicles, has been extinguished by now.
