The European Union plans to spend one billion euros on a humanitarian aid package for Afghanistan. Thus, Brussels hopes to prevent a crisis in the country.
The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen wrote about this on her Twitter page, Izvestia reports.
“We must do everything we can to prevent a major humanitarian and socio-economic collapse in Afghanistan,” she said.
According to the head of the European Commission, Afghans should not pay for the actions of the Taliban*. The humanitarian aid, on which the allocated funds are planned to be spent, will go to the needs of the population. They want to spend at least half of the planned billion euros on vaccination against coronavirus, protection of human rights and health care.
The idea of Brussels is certainly good. However, she was clearly late. There is no way to prevent the crisis: for decades, the United States and Europe have done everything possible to make it worse. Today, even such an impressive amount will not be the solution to all the troubles of the people of Afghanistan.
