A delegation from the new Taliban-formed Afghan government discussed in Qatar with the US delegation the opening of a new page in relations between Kabul and Washington
Calling on the US not to violate the country’s airspace or interfere in its internal affairs, Amir Khan Mottaki, foreign minister of Afghanistan’s interim government, told reporters on Saturday.
The meeting was the first of its kind since the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan and formed a government, and the visit to Qatar was also the first overseas trip by members of the new Afghan government.
“The Afghan government delegation discussed with the US delegation in Qatar the opening of a new page in relations, the provision of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and compliance with the Doha peace agreement”, – Mottaki said.
He said the talks would continue till the end of today and resume on Sunday.
The Afghan delegation demanded the Americans not to violate the country’s airspace and not to interfere in its internal affairs as well as unfreeze the country’s foreign assets, the Foreign Minister said.
For its part, the US delegation promised to provide Afghanistan with vaccines against the coronavirus.
