Poland recognized the supremacy of the laws of the country over the laws of the EU

Poland’s constitutional tribunal ruled that EU laws that allow national courts to circumvent the provisions of the basic law are incompatible with the country’s constitution, reports EurAsia Daily.

“In accordance with this law, only the EU rules that we have ratified are in force in our country, and none of them can contradict the Polish constitution. If someone expected a different decision, he expected lawlessness or wants to completely destabilize the Polish state, that is, in fact, works to the detriment. This applies to politicians, journalists and judges themselves”, said Tomasz Sakevich, editor-in-chief of Gazeta Polska.

Let’s remind that in March the Prime Minister of the Republic Mateusz Morawiecki appealed to the Constitutional Tribunal of Poland with a request to check the superiority of one law over another. The Council of Ministers of the country began to think about the excess of the powers of the Court of the European Union, which consists in asserting the supremacy of European law over the Polish constitution.

According to experts, the decision of the Polish court may become a direct path for Warsaw to the legal “Polexit” – an exit from the legal system of the European Union. However, the spokesman for the Polish government, Piotr Müller, strongly rejected such assumptions, calling this thesis populism.
