US senators are calling on Biden to expel 300 Russian diplomats if Moscow refuses to expand the staff of the US embassy, TASS reports.
“Whoever proposes such steps, apparently, is seeking the closure of American missions abroad in Russia. They must realize that the responsibility for this will lie with them”, the Foreign Ministry said.
The diplomatic service also noted that there are not so many Russian diplomats in Washington.
“Or the congressmen, not possessing the appropriate knowledge in international relations, also counted Russian diplomatic staff working in the permanent mission to the UN,” the Foreign Ministry said.
Earlier, a group of US senators from both parties asked the US president to take immediate measures to increase the number of employees of the US embassy in Moscow and expel 300 Russian diplomats from the country if the Russian side refuses.
