Deputy Chairman of the European Commission Frans Timmermans said that the EC considers unfavorable market conditions to be the cause of the energy crisis in the European Union, RT reports.
“It’s all about market conditions. Energy demand today is at its highest in 25 years”, said Timmermans.
In addition, the deputy chairman of the EC rejected the assumption that the energy crisis will force the EU to temporarily retreat from its climate targets.
“This is out of the question, the EU climate norms are set in stone,” he said.
Over the past 10 years, the European Commission has worked to create a free market for gas and electricity in the EU, arguing that in parallel with the widespread introduction of green energy (which still produces more expensive electricity than carbon), this will ultimately lead to lower energy prices in Europe.
