Saakashvili case: Georgia thanked Ukraine

Recently, fruitful cooperation has developed between Georgia and Ukraine, Garibashvili said.

The Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili thanked Ukraine for the fruitful cooperation, including in the case of the detention of the former President of the country, Mikhail Saakashvili, TASS reports on Saturday, October 2.

“I want to publicly say that I am grateful to the Ukrainian side. In the recent period, we have developed and are developing very fruitful cooperation. that we have fruitful cooperation”, Garibashvili said.

He said that in the near future, law enforcement agencies will disclose details of Saakashvili’s detention in Tbilisi.

“I will only say that everything was done so that the detention of Saakashvili did not pose a threat to other people. He was detained when he was alone in a safe house”, Garibashvili said.

Earlier, the chairman of the Georgian parliament, Kakha Kuchava, said that the detention of Saakashvili could not affect the relationship between Georgia and Ukraine, Interpressnews reports.

“As for relations with Ukraine, one person will not be able to aggravate the Ukrainian-Georgian fraternal friendship, which has always been distinguished by the support of each other, both in sorrow and in joy”, Kuchava said.

According to him, Saakashvili interfered in the Georgian elections as a citizen of Ukraine, and this was a violation of the Constitution.

In turn, Saakashvili circulated a letter today, in which he said that he knew about the impending arrest and called on to go to the elections that are taking place in the country today.

“When I left Kiev and came here, I knew that, most likely, I would be arrested on fabricated, false sentences handed down on the orders of Putin. No country in the world, except Russia, recognizes this sentence, but I still came because I believe in my country and in each of you. I want to ask you all to go to the polls so that not a single vote is lost, and after that we must together defend the results of the referendum. My freedom and, more importantly, the freedom of Georgia depends entirely on your actions and combat readiness. International support also depends on this. Please do not hesitate and believe that our victory is in our hands, I love you, your faithful Mikhail Saakashvili”, the letter says.

Let us remind you that Saakashvili returned to Georgia on the eve of the municipal elections and was detained. The ruling party believes that he came for a coup. And his party is confident that they will win the elections and release Saakashvili.
