Politico reports that the United States is in talks to use military facilities in countries neighbouring Afghanistan for counter-terrorism operations
“A trio of top military leaders have briefed lawmakers behind closed doors on discussions being held with the governments of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and other countries”, – Politico reported, citing a number of US senators.

On August 15, Taliban fighters entered Kabul without a fight. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani left the republic, after which the Taliban declared an end to fighting.
