US military officials have admitted defeat in Afghanistan. The head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, gave the main reasons for the failure
Speaking before the House Armed Services Committee, he said the war in Afghanistan was lost because of the blunders of the previous four administrations, 112 reported, citing The Washington Post.
“It has not been lost in the last 20 days or even 20 months. It is the cumulative effect of a series of policy decisions taken a long time agо”, – Milly said.
He cited as major mistakes the decision to focus on Iraq, plans to “deal effectively with Pakistan”, where enemies of the United States have often lurked.
Millie added that the main objective was to protect the U.S. from al-Qaeda. In fact, the Americans have achieved it, but the end result is different from what Washington had originally planned.
