Russian publicist, Germanist Timofey Borisov believes that Olaf Scholz will become the new chancellor of Germany.
The expert said this in an interview with IA REGNUM. He is confident that the new likely German leader will fight for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
“Chancellor, I am sure, will be Olaf Scholz. His SPD party won the elections, and now nothing can prevent him from forming a government coalition. A representative of the ruling CDU / CSU, Armin Lashet, still has theoretical and practical chances to take the Chancellor’s chair, but this is extremely, extremely unlikely. Practically from the realm of fantasy”, said Borisov.
He noted that Scholz is an experienced politician, and therefore he began to negotiate a coalition in advance. He has already met with representatives of the Greens and the FDP. Two political forces are already ready to enter into an alliance with him, and now it is only about agreeing on details.
In addition, Lashet is dissatisfied within his party and many want to part with him. He will probably not be able to keep the leadership of the CDU / CSU in his hands.
At the same time, Borisov drew attention to the fact that the Party of Greens would try to prevent the launch of the SP-2. Their representatives – Robert Habek and Annalene Berbock – can get seats in the government, and they react extremely negatively to the gas pipeline. Therefore, attempts to delay the certification of Nord Stream 2 cannot be ruled out. At the same time, Scholz will oppose them, since the commissioning of the pipe in Germany is already necessary.
