Some EU countries have raised the issue of the possibility of canceling the visa-free regime for Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia and the countries of the Western Balkans, Radio Liberty reports.
According to an EU internal document, which was published during the visit of the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to the Western Balkans, a large number of citizens of Ukraine, Moldova and some other countries illegally reside in the territory of the European Union and are submitting unsubstantiated applications for asylum.
“Germany, France and Italy have been getting more and more upset lately about alleged abuse of the visa waiver regime. It mentions bursts of “offenses related to unauthorized residence” committed by citizens of Albania, Moldova, Ukraine and Serbia”, writes Radio Liberty.
In addition, it is indicated that the number of applications for asylum for citizens of Georgia over the past three months has increased by more than 50%. In the document, Germany referred to Moldova as a special case, when from June to August 2019 and from June to August this year, the increase in refusals to readmission of persons was 429%.
