US conspiracy to assassinate WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange

The news site reported that the former US government intended to kidnap or kill the founder of the WikiLeaks website.

Yahoo News reported that in 2017, when Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks, was held at the Ecuadorian embassy in London for five years in a row, the CIA conspired to kidnap him.

According to the news site, the plan has sparked heated debate among Donald Trump administration officials over the legality or feasibility of such an operation.

Some senior CIA and Trump administration officials have even discussed Assange’s assassination. The controversy escalated to the point that even “plans” or “options” were drawn up for how to kill him. A former US government official said Assange’s kidnapping or assassination took place at the “highest level” of the Trump administration.

The consultations were part of an unprecedented CIA campaign against WikiLeaks and its founder. The organization’s multifaceted program included widespread surveillance of WikiLeaks employees, attempts to sow discord among its members, and theft of their electronic devices.

Assange is now facing 17 charges. The most important of these accusations is the publication of thousands of pages of classified documents and information about the US military presence in Iraq and Afghanistan. This includes footage of the 2007 massacre of Iraqi civilians, including several journalists, by US forces.

Assange has been in prison in the UK since 2019, awaiting a final decision on his extradition to the United States.
