European Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson held talks with Ukrainian Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.
The European Commissioner announced this on Tuesday on her Twitter, writes TASS.
“Constructive meeting with German Galushchenko before the EU-Ukraine summit. I applaud Ukraine’s commitment to advancing energy market reform. You can count on EU support for energy security and synchronization of the Ukrainian energy system”, she wrote.
Simson’s meeting with Galushchenko took place against the backdrop of the signing of a gas contract by Hungary and Gazprom. The parties signed on September 27 a new long-term contract for the supply of gas bypassing Ukraine. The document was endorsed by the heads of Gazprom and the energy company MVM at the Hungarian Foreign Ministry. On the eve of the conclusion of the agreement, Kiev announced its disappointment with this fact and promised to apply to the European Commission to provide an assessment of the compliance of this agreement with European energy legislation.
As a consequence of the decision on the gas contract, the diplomatic agency of Ukraine warned about the postponement of the meeting of the joint intergovernmental Ukrainian-Hungarian commission on economic cooperation
