The Hungarian authorities must assess the impact of the gas contract with Gazprom on energy security and show the European Commission its conclusions.
Also, the EC can request a contract for study if there are suspicions that it threatens the energy supply of the region or the European Union as a whole. Russian Senator Alexei Pushkov commented on this situation.
“The European Commission called on Hungary to assess the impact of the gas contract with Russia on the energy security of the EU, but not Ukraine, since it is not an EU member. The EU generally cannot instruct Hungary to take care of Ukraine’s interests and its budget, but can only act in roundabout ways”, Pushkov wrote on his Telegram.
Pushkov said that soon Kiev will only achieve with its threats that other countries will try to bypass Ukraine, shying away from it as from an aggressive and annoying parasite. After all, Ukraine is just a transit country, and it is obliged to provide supplies wherever the supplier tells it, for this it is paid money.
