Germany said that Ukraine should remain a transit country after the launch of Nord Stream-2

This was announced today at a press conference by the candidate for chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany from the Social Democratic Party of Germany Olaf Scholz, TASS reports.

“As for the pipeline, the construction of which has been completed, it is important that everyone takes into account the guarantees that are associated with its operation. The guarantees include the fact that Ukraine should remain a transit country for Russian gas”, Scholz said.

The politician claims that this is necessary so that gas supplies to some countries in eastern Europe are not under threat. According to him, Berlin expects that the agreement between Kiev and Moscow on the transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine will be respected even after the gas pipeline is launched.

Nord Stream-2 consists of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters. m per year, which run from the coast of Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany. Work on Nord Stream 2 was suspended in December 2019 after the Swiss Allseas abandoned pipe-laying due to the threat of US sanctions. Since December 2020, the construction of the gas pipeline has been resumed and fully completed on the morning of September 10, 2021. The gas pipeline is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of this year. Gazprom reported that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline could supply 5.6 billion cubic meters this year.
