European Commissioner Thierry Breton said that this is due to both the crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic and the closure of oil and gas wells, which led to a decrease in supply on the energy market, TASS reports.
“I think this situation with tensions in the energy sector could last all winter. And there are many reasons for this. We have a lot of renewable energy sources, but only I found out that there has been no wind in Europe for the last six weeks. Much less electricity was produced than expected”, said the European Commissioner.
Another reason for the crisis, according to Breton, lies in geopolitical tensions and the “dependence” of some countries on Russian gas.
