Lavrov explains how the creation of the AUKUS defence alliance will affect EU-Russia relations

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the creation of a new defence alliance AUKUS between the US, Britain and Australia could help bring Russia and the EU closer together, he said at a press conference following the UN General Assembly session

“It may also affect our relations with the EU, may cause interest in the European Union to cooperate with us all the same, using the obvious geopolitical and geostrategic advantages of being on one huge continent”, –  Lavrov said.

He also said that strengthening of relations between Russia and the EU might be influenced by the fact that the centre of global development began to shift towards Asia.
