More than 350,000 people have been killed in fighting in Syria from March 2011 to March 2021, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet said Friday in Geneva
“We have compiled a list of 350,209 identified people killed during the conflict in Syria from March 2011 to March 2021”, – the UN high commissioner said while presenting the report at the UN Human Rights Council session.
Bachelet added that 26,727 women and 27,126 children were on the list. Aleppo province accounted for the most casualties with 51,731. This is followed by rural Damascus (47,483), Homs (40,986), Idlib (33,271), Hama (31,993) and Tartous (31,369).
The High Commissioner stressed that the data collected should not be seen as a complete list of victims of the conflict, as it is only a “minimum verifiable number and the true number of victims is certainly higher.”
