German Chancellor candidate, leader of the Christian Democratic Union party Armin Laschet believes that the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline should be put into operation, but the interests of Ukraine should be taken into account, writes the German edition DW.
“Yes, we need this economic project, because if we stop other forms of energy, we will need gas. But it is important for me that the government adheres to the position defined earlier, namely, that Ukraine as a transit country will not suffer as a result. If Russia violates this agreement, the deal will be stopped immediately”, Laschet said.
On September 10, Gazprom announced the completion of the construction of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. The process of obtaining permission to launch it can take about four months.
