The operators of the gas transmission systems of these four countries are considering the possibility of repurposing them for hydrogen transportation in the future, creating the Central European Hydrogen Corridor.
“Natural gas will remain the main source of energy and an important factor in the decarbonization program over the next two decades. But hydrogen could replace gas by mid-century, when the European economy is expected to achieve carbon neutrality. That is why we must start exploring these possibilities today. Hydrogen is a promising technology that is at an early stage of implementation across the economy. Partnership with neighboring GTS operators will create a synergistic effect for the development of green hydrogen”, – according to a press release from OGTSU.
The organizers of the project have already begun to study the feasibility of the technical implementation of the creation of a Central European hydrogen corridor for the transportation of pure hydrogen. The first results on the possibility of such transportation and its cost will become known next year.
