The Latvian Seimas Commission has approved a ban on the public use of St. George’s Ribbon, it was reported
According to the head of the commission, Artuss Kaimins, the ribbon is associated with the Soviet era and is contrary to the spirit of independent Latvia.
“The values carried by this symbol are unacceptable”, – the Saeima deputy said, adding that the use of the St. George’s Ribbon is a denial of the country’s independence.
Recall that the “St. George Ribbon” campaign was launched back in 2005 in Moscow. The black and orange ribbons became a symbol of memory about the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and a sign of eternal gratitude to the veterans who liberated the world from fascism.
