Sudan has detained most of the participants in the attempted coup d’etat that took place in Khartoum today
This was reported by RIA Novosti, citing a statement from the Sudanese Armed Forces. The detainees include 21 officers and a number of soldiers.
“The situation has been brought under control and most of the participants in the failed coup attempt have been detained, including 21 officers and a number of non-commissioned officers and soldiers”, – the military said.
Protests had been taking place for several days in eastern Sudan, culminating in an attempted violent change of power in the country. However, government forces foiled the coup attempt.
It was also reported earlier that a group of functionaries and supporters of the regime of former Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir were behind the coup, according to preliminary reports.
