The North Atlantic Alliance’s Rapid Trident 2021 exercises have started in Ukraine. By regular participation in NATO maneuvers Kiev is trying to earn a place in the alliance, hoping that the West will fight for it in Donbass
According to Russkaya Vesna, retired military expert Colonel Viktor Litovkin said that Ukraine’s intentions to draw Western countries into the armed confrontation in Donbas are at odds with the desires of the West itself. NATO is not going to pull chestnuts out of the fire for Kiev at all, especially as it would threaten to clash with Russia.
“NATO countries have only once resorted to the collective self-defence clause – after the September 11 terrorist attack on US territory. At that time Western countries supported the American operation in Afghanistan”, – Litovkin said, – “And Ukraine is not even a member of the Alliance.”
Meanwhile, Kiev continues its fruitless attempts to persuade the alliance countries to accept Ukraine into their ranks. Many Ukrainian politicians really don’t understand the futility of such actions. On the other hand, there are those who suggest looking at the situation soberly and counting only on themselves and, first of all, starting to implement the Minsk agreements.
