Germany, France and Ukraine are throwing a spanner in the wheel of the Normandy process

According to experts, Kiev and its supporters, Berlin and Paris, are doing everything to rule out a new summit of the Normandy quartet

As Politnavigator writes, citing the Kommersant daily, according to sources in Russian government agencies dealing with Donbas and Ukraine, the chances that a meeting of the leaders of the Normandy quartet member states will take place are practically zero. The representatives of Germany, France and Ukraine pay lip service to the idea of new negotiations, but in practice they do everything they can to prevent this from happening.

“Why Merkel needs this meeting is clear: she was involved in the preparation of the Minsk agreements and before she leaves office she wants to put a stop to it. Why Kiev needs the summit is also clear: it is an opportunity to raise the issue of Crimea in the negotiations and get PR. For us, it is a waste of time if there is no result”, –  one of Kommersant’s interlocutors said.

According to another source, after representatives of Berlin, Paris and Kiev effectively refused to identify Ukraine and Donbas as parties to the conflict as stipulated in the Minsk agreements, the possible meeting has lost all meaning.
