Political scientist Rahr says German elections won’t be able to stop NSP2 launch

Germany’s new government, which will be formed after the elections, will not be able to influence the launch of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2, German political analyst Alexander Rahr said in an interview with Sputnik, RIA Novosti

Rahr recalled that Nord Stream 2 is actively opposed by German party “Union 90 / The Greens” and in case of victory of the political force the Greens may try to stop the work of the pipeline. But then Berlin would have to pay huge compensation to the companies that were involved in the construction of Nord Stream 2 and to Russia.

“Such a crazy move, first of all, will hurt Germany itself […] There are quite reasonable, pragmatically thinking people in Germany, who will very quickly explain the situation to any “green” minister who will nurture, one might say, crazy ideas about a gas war with Russia”, – the expert summed up.
