Minister of the Interior of Lithuania Agne Bilotaite said that the Belarusian authorities are allegedly opening new ways of migration to the European Union, reports EurAsia Daily
“Today we can see that Belarus is looking for new ways very intensively: first of all, they are trying to take advantage of the situation in Afghanistan, as well as, according to our information, there is a new visa-free regime for the relevant countries: Pakistan, Iran, South Africa and Egypt”, – said the Minister.
According to Bilotayte, this demonstrates the attempts of Belarus to put pressure on the European Union. Let us remind you that the migration crisis at the EU borders began at the end of May. Groups of illegal migrants from Africa and the Middle East started storming the borders of Lithuania, Poland and Latvia in the hope of getting asylum.
Lithuania, for its part, erected a 25-kilometre barbed-wire fence on its border with Belarus and accused President Aleksandr Lukashenko of “hybrid aggression”.
