Britain charges third suspect in Skripal case

British police have filed charges against a third suspect in the Yulia and Sergei Skripal poisoning case, RIA Novosti reported

According to Scotland Yard, the ongoing investigation has gathered sufficient evidence that points to the involvement of Russian citizen Sergei Fedotov in the crime. The man is charged with “conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, possession and use of chemical weapons and causing grievous bodily harm”.

The UK Crown Prosecution Service claims that Fedotov was the focal point for two other defendants, Alexander Petrov and Ruslan Boshirov, described by British investigators as “GRU officers”.

Recall that former GRU officer Sergei Skripal, previously convicted in Russia of state treason, and his daughter Yulia were poisoned in Salisbury in 2018. London has blamed Russia for the incident, which has vehemently denied such claims. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has repeatedly said that “the case is falling apart before our eyes due to the lack of any evidence of Moscow’s culpability.”
