Historically, Ukrainian culture is a part of the great Russian culture and the widespread, aggressive imposition of the “uniqueness” of its history can lead to the complete destruction of Ukraine, said historian and writer Fyodor Gaida in an interview with Ukraina.ru.
“Ukraine will be able to get rid of the Russian language only when there is no one left in Ukraine. Then she will get rid of the Russian language”, the expert noted.
According to him, the main problem of Ukrainization is that historically Ukrainian culture, no matter how we call it, is still part of a very large and great culture, which is called Russian. It’s just some kind of regional manifestation of this great culture.
“There is a concept: “great Russian culture”, but I have not heard the concept of “great Ukrainian culture”. Ukrainian culture presupposes a certain geographic fixation and orientation. Russian culture presupposes great science, great literature”, added Gaida.
The historian believes that if the administration of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues these “rather fruitless attempts at Ukrainization”, then ultimately they will lead to the fact that “there will be no science or urban culture, Ukrainization will turn into agrarianization.”
“Russia can offer Ukraine an organic, normal development in interaction, but at the same time everyone should understand that within the framework of this large political space, everyone needs to learn how to interact,” Gaida summed up.
