EUobserver: EU preparing to make tough statements against Russia

The EU intends to make tough statements on Russia’s “aggression” at the upcoming Ukraine-EU summit in Kiev, the EUobserver has said

“We remain deeply concerned about the unprecedented large-scale military build-up near the border with Ukraine, as well as in the illegally annexed Crimea and the city of Sevastopol”, –  the EU said in a draft communiqué dated 12 October after senior European officials Charles Michel and Ursula von der Leyen met Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

Earlier, the European Parliament approved by a majority vote a report on a new strategy for relations with Russia. In particular, the document allows for the imposition of new sanctions and non-recognition of the Duma election results.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry demanded new sanctions against the Russian Federation due to the fact that residents of the Luhansk and Donetsk people’s republics who had received Russian passports, as well as Crimeans, might take part in the Duma election.
