The renowned political analyst believes that the increase in gas prices is among other things a consequence of an openly hostile course of Western countries towards Russia. Trying to strangle it economically, Europe has dug a hole for itself
As Economics Today reports, speaking on Vesti FM, Israeli expert Yaakov Kedmi noted that even with the price of $960 per 1,000 cubic meters of gas at European hubs, American politicians continue to demand that the US authorities impose sanctions on Nord Stream-2. For example, US senators Ted Cruz and Pat Toomey have issued an ultimatum to US President Joe Biden demanding sanctions against Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of NSP2.
“The degree of idiocy of US elected officials is off the charts. They have absolutely no idea what is going on. They haven’t paid attention to the little detail that Gazprom’s gas storage facilities in Europe are almost empty. By October or November there will be even less gas and only Nord Stream 2 can fill them. I wonder how Europe will look at this?” – said Kedmi.
At the same time, according to the political scientist, the rise in gas prices was able to fully offset all of Gazprom’s costs from the earlier anti-Russian sanctions and even put it in the black, “with interest and a premium. And the European Union countries will have to pay the price for the thoughtless and voluntaristic US policy.”
“Europeans will have an even harder time discussing gas sources when their teeth ache from the cold. It’s cold without gas. Secondly, their policy not only nullified all sanctions against Russia, but also gave the kind of compensation that you cannot make up for”, – the expert said.
Kedmi is convinced that gas prices have not yet reached their peak, and the longer the EU, through bureaucratic delays, prevents the start of gas transportation through the new pipeline, the more they will pay for their stupidity and arrogance.
“It’s not evening yet. It is not cold yet. There is little gas in Europe’s storage facilities, but it is still there. And what will happen tomorrow, when it is colder and there is less gas? Right now Russia is quietly receiving compensation for the financial damage of all the sanctions. Thanks to the US senators, they take such care of the Russian economy, they help it so much. Let’s move on. Let’s give $2,000!” – Yaakov Kedmi summed it up.
