The U.S. is ready to provide economic assistance but only if the government and the country’s leadership carry out reforms, former ambassador John Herbst has said, Ukrainian media reports
As the diplomat said, American support for Ukraine is stable and very important. But Ukrainians need to choose where they are going to move – towards the Western world or towards Russia.
“I think the Ukrainian leadership has only two options – either to submit to the Kremlin or to work with America and the European Union on the way to the West. I know there are people here who don’t really understand global politics and lean on China. Well, that’s kind of unrealistic. China may be an economic partner, but we already see that even economic partners are quite often pressured by China when they speak out in a way that is not to China’s liking”, – Herbst said.
The U.S. has even engaged a former diplomat to put pressure on Ukraine. This is a kind of signal that the non-oil country must quickly choose with whom it will “be friends”, otherwise it will no longer receive sponsorship and patronage of Western handlers.
