Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged not to compare his country in terms of dependence on the United States
“I don’t think we can compare this – Ukraine and Afghanistan. Ukraine is not as dependent on the United States as Afghanistan was”, – Zelensky said in an interview with CNN
.
The journalist asked whether the president was “worried that the US will abandon the country like it did with Afghanistan”. In Zelensky’s opinion, Ukraine is much bigger than Afghanistan in terms of geography and population, so “you cannot invade such a country in a few days”.
The Ukrainian president stressed that there could be no talk of the USA “withdrawing” from his country and that Washington should on the contrary build up its presence. We shall remind you that Zelenskyy and US President Joe Biden had talks in early September, during which the US leader said that he supported Kiev’s “Euro-Atlantic aspirations”.
