State Duma deputy Elena Panina noted in her Telegram channel that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is trying to shift the responsibility for the surrender of Afghanistan to the Taliban to the authorities of the republic
Panina recalled that the secretary general of the North Atlantic Alliance gave a big interview to The New York Times in which he said that the collapse of its political and military authorities had led to the fall of Afghanistan and the victory of the Taliban.
Stoltenberg also dodged the question of whether the withdrawal of the US military and NATO could have hastened Afghanistan’s fall. He said this question “will be the subject of future research” and the withdrawal had been previously agreed with North Atlantic Alliance allies.
“This is yet another statement by Western politicians to shift the responsibility for the surrender of Afghanistan to the Taliban onto the Afghan authorities. To debunk this thesis, one need only bring up the UN Security Council resolutions, which assigned the International Security Assistance Force, represented by a NATO military contingent, to provide security throughout the territory of Afghanistan. The international forces were supposed to contain the Taliban militants and give Afghans time to take control of the country”, – Panina said.
