Review and approval will take up to four months
The Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur) has received the documents for certification of Nord Stream 2 as an independent gas transmission operator, the review of documents and making a decision will take up to four months, agency spokesman Fiete Wulf told Interfax.
“The company has submitted all the documents, according to the law we have up to four months time to review and make a decision, then the decision must be submitted to the European Commission”, – Wolf said.
According to him, it is not about the commissioning of the pipeline, only its certification and compliance with the EU Gas Directive. Failure to obtain certification from the Bundesnetzagentur could lead to fines when the pipeline is put into operation. It is up to other authorities to decide whether the pipeline should be commissioned.
